Kemonae is an intelligent species capable of reasoning.

Society & communication

Kemonae feel indebted to one another with a strong sense of individuality.

Societies in the Kemoverse almost always work on a limited model of a collective consciousness. Kemonae are learned from young age to understand and connect to their fellow people, and social habits reflect this – such as keeping and handing down homes through generations, have yearly gatherings of specific festivities, and insist on offering things to complete strangers. This model, however, only works in relatively small communities, of up to around 8 000.

Due to this limited social structure, a contribution to society is always seen as something desirable and affirms that they belong to it. If a person does not contribute, they are initially met with encouragement to find themselves through belief. However, if the person continues to be psychologically “lost” of purpose, there is a risk of a strong, negative reaction from the community as the behavior depletes and wears out the psyche of the society. The person might be pushed outside of the community to live more independent lives, often together with others and forming various independent tribes.

Individualism is an important trait in most Kemonae due to how connected an individual feeling is to the community as a whole. Their survival depends heavily on the psychological state of its members, regardless if it’s of the independent of dependent type. Studies have shown that as the number of members in a community goes down, the more unstable it becomes and more prone to change based on a single member it gets.

Beliefs & life

Kemonae are traditionally reserved of matters related to spiritual belief but do depict various ideals and symbols that are local to their respective groups. It is common for a local representation of their common race to be hailed as the “bringer” of awareness, typically accompanied with disciples representing important emotions that lay the foundation for communication. These representations might look different between different localities and dialects; but is always represented in some way. These depictions are important in certain rituals.

Development & knowledge

Kemonae are thought to be an unusually un-developing society. Tools and techniques are rarely scientifically improved, perhaps never; instead focus is instead placed on a simple, continued existence of life with well-rounded knowledge in focus. Scientific traditions, such as recipes and schematics, are often the same as they were hundred years ago.

School serves the purpose of educating children to a state of functioning. The most important classes to teach are matters concerning earth such as biology, geography, entomology, agriculture and environmental care, and matters concerning individual functions such as sociology, psychology, physiology, ethics and compassionism. Less important subjects that are only told for overall knowledge are topics such as history, spirituality, etc.

In general, Kemonae is less concerned about information relating to past events and people, and instead places importance on current time and the immediate future.

Relations to earth

Kemonae inherits a particularly common appreciation for nature and earth, primarily reflected in food and lifestyle, but also in psychological understanding. Birth and death are as understood as the decay and growth of trees and leaves, while also realizing the potential contribution of a single person. Graves can be close to living spaces and are often card for daily; while births are personally celebrated to each person’s capacity.

Because of the relatively low amount of members in each community, there tend to be a lot of scattered societies on the surface of the earth. It is however very rare for Kemonae to start a journey to another town, as it is quite risky – due to dense vegetation, fringe tribes, distance, and in many cases there is no reason as each town is mostly self-sufficient. Because of this, each community usually has the same amount of familiar lineages that is also continually changing.

Terraforming and deforesting is a necessary evil, and people usually attempt to counteract any sort of destructive actions towards nature.
