Kemotek Diaries is a book collaboration series effort to promote obscure internet furry artists. The aim of the project is to motivate and bring together a variety of artists and their styles to make a book together for fun -- a safe-for-work project focusing on original content and personal expression. "Kemotek" refers to the theme: interaction of furries with the world through any technology and tools; and "Diaries" refers to the contents of the book: the characters personal lives and the artists personal style. With each book issue, a more specific theme is determined.

The Kemotek Diaries is primarily run as a passion project where profit comes second. This means that, as a participant, there is no entry/participation fee and no need to worry about the financial feasability of this project, but also that there is no set payment for the participants effort. However, it is unlikely for participants to not be paid for their work if everyone helps with advertising of the project. At the very least, the goal is to recuperate the cost of producing the books (break even) and any further profit is more of a bonus. Please note that the additional profit will only be distributed to participants with assigned pages.

The book will be printed to physical copies and sold primarily online and at conventions. Make sure to finish your pieces in time and notify if things aren't working out! Every participant who is assigned pages are guaranteed to receive their own copies free of charge. If you're interested in collaborating but cannot make "proper" artwork in time, feel free to submit a small doodle to the Kemotek Whiteboard -- scroll down for more information.

Hello, I'm Paru, an artist/producer/lotsa-things and love to make stuff together! You can check out my art and books at my website to get an overview of what I do. I like to work together on collaborative projects and am thus interested in leading this kind of project once again. I have previously produced two collaboration books together with up to 22 participants and successfully broke even (with more than double). I handled the management, book design and printing and have sold to American, European and Japanese audiences.

  • Q: What am I required to draw? A: Draw what you like to draw, as long as it's original content and safe-for-work.
  • Q: Do I have to pay anything? A: No, it's free. You just have to contribute with your time and art.
  • Q: What do I get out from this? A: A book, at the very least. Money, if it goes well. New contacts... always.
  • Q: How do I apply to this project? A: I will personally invite you. But, if you like the idea... send me a message.

Kemotek Whiteboard

The Kemotek Whiteboard project is a public drawpile server and serves as an online experiment for non-participant artists to contribute little sketches to the Kemotek Diaries books. The Whiteboard project runs alongside every book issue and at the deadline a screenshot of its content is placed at the end pages of the book. In exchange, every artist that has had their contribution printed in the book is given a discount for the final product. However, the sketch contributions must follow a small set of rules, which are described as:

  • Your art must be related to the book and theme: it must be about furries and technology.
  • Only safe-for-work and original characters are permitted.
  • Mind your space and don’t occupy too much room on the canvas.
  • Please include a reference to your online identity (twitter, furaffinity, etc) so you can get the discount.

If you'd like to participate, please launch Drawpile and connect to the server: Sessions > Join... > Enter a host address: kemono.se:27560 > Join.

The first book starts off pretty simple and is all about your character(s) and how they connect!

"Cyber-Sona", is about the character(s) you would like to show off to the readers -- introduce your original character(s) by drawing them in their style, clothing, and environment of your choice. You decide how you want to create your pages, but I encourage you to experiment with different looks and styles.

"Contact", is about how your character(s) communicate with the world or each others. This is to help add some life to the drawings. For example, what does your character do and who do they talk to? Let your character call, mail or even go on a journey to meet someone in their life. Basically, it's just about showing your character doing something with someone else to add some story/depth to the drawings.

Please feel free to push your art style as far as you are comfortable with, the book content is supposed to be experimental and different!
