The name of the book series refer to the combination of "'''Kemo'''no" and "'''Tech'''nology" -- the overarching theme referring to interaction between furries and technology. Kemono actually refers to "eastern furry", but can be interpreted as "foreign" style, meaning furry styles that are different from the usual. Technology refers to any sort of man-made object that the furry characters have to interact with. As an example, it could be anything from simple items (computers, cars, etc) to themes (sci-fi, weapons, etc). This is just the general theme; for each book issue a more specific theme is determined.

Kemotek Diaries is a furry book collaboration effort to focus on promoting obscure internet artists. The aim of the project is to motivate and bring together a variety of atmospheric styles to make an interesting and different (and perhaps experimental) book together for fun -- a safe-for-work project focusing on original content and experimental expression in the theme of ambient technology.

The name of the book series refer to the combination of "Kemono" and "Technology" -- the overarching theme referring to interaction between furries and technology.

The Kemotek Diaries is primarily run as a passion project where profit comes second. This means that, as a participant, there is no entry/participation fee and no need to worry about the financial feasability of this project, but also that there is no set payment for the participants effort. However, it is unlikely for participants to not be paid for their work if everyone helps with advertising of the project. At the very least, the goal is to recuperate the cost of producing the books (break even) and any further profit is more of a bonus. Please note that the additional profit will only be distributed to participants with assigned pages.

The book will be printed to physical copies and sold primarily online and at conventions. Make sure to finish your pieces in time and notify if things aren't working out! Every participant who is assigned pages are guaranteed to receive their own copies free of charge. If you're interested in collaborating but cannot make "proper" artwork in time, feel free to submit a small doodle to the "Digital Whiteboard" pages at the end -- a spread dedicated to smaller pieces of artworks. You will have to pay for the book and shipping yourself, but for a reduced price.

Hello, I'm Paru, an artist/producer/lotsa-things and love to make things! You can check out my art and books at my website to get an overview of what I do. I like to work together on collaborative projects and am thus interested in leading this kind of project once again. I have previously produced two collaboration books together with up to 22 participants and successfully broke even (with more than double). I handled the management, book design and printing and have sold to American, European and Japanese audiences.

  • Q: What am I required to draw? A: Draw what you like to draw, as long as it's original content and safe-for-work. Try and stick to the theme, too.
  • Q: Do I have to pay anything? A: No, it's free. You just have to contribute with your time and art.
  • Q: What do I get out from this? A: A book, at the very least. Money, if it goes well. New contacts... always.
  • Q: How do I apply to this project? A: I will personally invite you. But, if you like the idea... send me a message.

  • Issue: 1
  • Theme: Cyber-Sona
  • Inception: October, 2019
  • Deadline: May, 2020

Participants

The first book starts off pretty simple and is all about your character(s), and how they connect! This is to represent the initial issue of the book and how it's formed (through the internet).

Introduce at least one of your original characters by drawing them in their style, clothing and accessories, and if you want, with additional art of their surroundings such as their room or favorite environment. You can also add some descriptive text, for example of their personal details or perhaps their background story, but this is optional. With regards to the theme, it doesn't have to be focused on the Internet -- it would be nice if you showed how your character communicates with the world, friends, family, internet, etc. Examples: Do they have a best buddy or partner that they stick around with? Are they a loner who sits on the computer all day? Do they chat up with strangers at the grocery store? Do they lead a group of friends and cause mischief? Do they send letters in a traditional setting? Are they sweet-talking and flirtatious, or happy and talkative? etc ...

All in all, it's pretty much a free game -- show the reader what you've got with your character.

Here's what will happen:

  • You will be assigned either 2, 4 or 6 full-color pages.
  • You will be asked to either tell or show me your plans for the pages.
  • I will give you a page template (for page size and margins) for you to fill in with your artwork.
  • You will have up until the deadline to finish your pages and send them to me.
  • I will show a preview of the book to you and await approval.
  • The book is finally sent to be printed and sold.
